Founded in 2005 by Daron Murphy, The Gowanus Sound Initiative creates top-level music and sound for commercials, film, television, and electronic multimedia.

Daron Murphy
Daron
Daron Murphy is a multi-faceted composer and performer, who has contributed to all aspects of the Gowanus Sound Initiative’s services, from the creation of original music and sound design, to production, music supervision, and licensing.

In 2005 Daron toured the world as guitar and bass player for multi-platinum recording artist Moby (with whom he continues to perform). Their collaboration is documented on the Moby Live: Hotel Tour 2005 concert DVD and Go: The Very Best of Moby, a CD featuring performances from the tour as well as bonus material culled from recording sessions in New York and Santiago de Chile.

Over the past five years Daron has produced music and performed in live events for MoveOn.org, Planned Parenthood, the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function, and the Democratic National Committee, sharing the stage with the likes of Lou Reed, Public Enemy’s Chuck D., Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell, Kris Kristofferson, the B-52’s, Rufus Wainwright, G.E. Smith, Vernon Reid, Senator John Kerry, and many others.

Before founding the Gowanus Sound Initiative in late 2005, Daron freelanced as a commercial composer for New York-based music houses Q Department and Human

Laura Dawn
Laura
A consummate songwriter, producer, and performer, Laura Dawn garnered rave reviews as Moby’s lead vocalist during the 2005 world tour in support of his worldwide platinum-selling album, Hotel (on which she appears as the featured singer). The international press described her voice as "shimmeringly sad" (Sydney Morning Herald), "sexy, mysterioso, murky but precise, full of a curiously heavy uplift, like Red Bull and vodka" (Village Voice), and "wailing like Claire Torry did on Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig in the Sky...she can stop traffic" (London’s Evening Standard).

In 2001, Miz Dawn wrote and co-produced all the tracks on her Warner Bros. solo album, Believer, "A sweetly vicious debut, equal parts power pop and sugary punk, like Siouxsie Sioux meets Jewel" (Spin).
But her talents are not limited to music alone. As Cultural Director for the progressive political action group MoveOn.org since 2003, Laura has interfaced with the world’s most notable performers, filmmakers, and artists to create such paradigm-shifting media as the Bush in 30 Seconds and 10 Weeks political ad campaigns and concert events. With Laura’s help, MoveOn (with 3.2 million members and counting) has grown into an organization that’s revolutionized internet-driven participatory politics.
This lady is outta control.
